Tinubu Commissions Wasa Informal Sector Roads, Says Project Will Boost Jobs, Business and FCT Revenue

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the access roads to the Wasa Informal Sector Layout in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing the project as a major step toward creating a modern commercial hub that will boost economic activities, increase the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and reduce the cost of doing business.

Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the President said the project fulfills the Federal Government’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda to provide quality infrastructure that supports ordinary Nigerians, particularly artisans, mechanics, traders, and small businesses.

He noted that the Wasa Informal Sector Layout provides a permanent and well-planned location for thousands of mechanics, motor parts dealers, car mart operators, and other artisans, adding that the development will promote economic growth while improving the city’s physical planning.

President Tinubu commended the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and the Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, for driving the successful delivery of the project, describing their leadership as instrumental in accelerating infrastructure development across the territory.

Speaking at the ceremony, Barrister Wike said the project fulfilled a long-standing promise to relocate traders and mechanics from the congested Apo Mechanic Village. He urged beneficiaries to move into the new facility and make proper use of the infrastructure provided.

The Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as another milestone in extending development beyond Abuja’s city centre, while calling on residents and beneficiaries to protect and maintain the public infrastructure.

The access roads form part of the wider infrastructure developed for the Wasa Informal Sector Layout, which also includes water and electricity, providing a more organized environment for informal sector businesses and supporting sustainable urban development in the FCT.
