The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to contractors handling major infrastructure projects in Abuja, insisting there will be no delays ahead of the third anniversary of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During an inspection tour on April 15, 2026, Wike assessed progress on several strategic projects slated for commissioning, including the Arterial Road N16 Interchange linking Jahi and Gwarimpa, the Transit Way N2 bridges connecting Wuse to the Central Business District, and access roads around the Institution and Research District.
While expressing general satisfaction with the pace of work, the Minister raised concerns over possible delays on the Transit Way N2 project, directing the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to ensure delivery no later than the second week of June.
We agreed the project would be completed by the end of May. That timeline must be respected,” Wike said, emphasizing that the administration will not tolerate setbacks.
He also highlighted the importance of the Tunga Madaki access road near the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, noting that it will improve connectivity to rural communities and eventually extend to Zuba. The project is currently undergoing procurement processes, with compensation plans underway for affected farmers.
Beyond roads, Wike revealed that water supply projects in Bwari, Karu, and Orozo are nearing completion, alongside ongoing upgrades in schools and healthcare facilities across satellite towns.
Addressing recent water shortages in the city centre, the Minister blamed a private developer for damaging a major pipeline and warned of strict action, including possible shutdown of the project.
He assured residents that efforts are underway to restore normal water supply, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving living conditions across the FCT.
