Gbajabiamila Praises Wike as Hypercity–Carrefour Deal Signals Retail Boom
The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for fostering a business-friendly environment that enabled the landmark partnership between Hypercity and Carrefour.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the franchise signing ceremony in Abuja, Gbajabiamila described the deal as a strong vote of confidence in Nigeria’s economy. He credited Wike’s “business-oriented leadership” for driving the collaboration, noting that it reflects ongoing efforts to transform Abuja’s economic landscape.
Gbajabiamila added that while the partnership is rooted in Abuja, it signals a broader retail expansion across Nigeria, with plans already pointing to Lagos and other major cities.
Managing Director of Hypercity, Sunny Chuwla, said the partnership will boost investment, create jobs, and expand opportunities for local suppliers. He revealed that new stores will open in Abuja and beyond, while existing outlets in Port Harcourt will transition to the Carrefour brand.
Chuwla described the initiative as a step toward building a modern retail ecosystem that combines global standards with local enterprise, positioning Nigeria as a key destination for long-term investment.
