Umahi Mourns Bishop Nworie, Describes His Death as Monumental Loss
The Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu, describing his passing as a monumental loss to both the Church and the nation.
In a condolence message, Umahi said he received the news with profound grief, noting that the late bishop’s death marks the end of an era defined by selfless service, spiritual depth, and unwavering commitment to God.
He described Bishop Nworie as a spiritual father, a moral guide, and a symbol of discipline and sacrificial leadership, whose influence extended beyond the Church into the wider society.
According to the minister, the late cleric distinguished himself through wisdom, humility, and compassion, impacting lives across all social strata and strengthening the faith of many.
Umahi noted that at a time when society is in dire need of moral clarity and spiritual direction, the bishop’s passing has created a significant void. However, he added that the legacy of the late prelate would continue to inspire generations through the lives he touched and the enduring impact of his ministry, particularly in Ebonyi State and beyond.
On behalf of his family and the Federal Ministry of Works, Umahi extended heartfelt condolences to the Catholic faithful, the clergy, and the Diocese of Abakaliki, as well as the immediate and extended family of the deceased.
He prayed for the repose of the bishop’s soul and asked God to grant strength and comfort to all who mourn the revered cleric.
